About the application

MotuTech is being built as Liberia’s next-generation mapping and community platform. Here is what it is, what it is for, and why the team is committed to shipping it.

What it is

MotuTech is a map-first product that brings together fast, modern maps (built on open geographic data), navigation and place discovery, and community reporting so people can see where things are, how to get there, and what others are flagging on the ground—in one experience tuned for Liberia and the wider region.

Purpose

The purpose is practical: reduce friction in daily movement, make local information easier to trust and share, and give communities a channel to surface infrastructure and neighborhood issues so citizens, organizations, and leaders can work from a shared, geographic picture of the country—not scattered notes and guesswork.

Motivation

Too many “global” tools ignore how streets, addressing, connectivity, and trust actually work here. MotuTech exists because Liberians deserve software designed with local realities in mind—including respect for uneven connectivity, clearer ways to describe places, and technology that elevates community voice instead of leaving it on the sidelines.
